Hot Havana Orchestra

The leader of the Hot Havana orchestra, Dariel René Pérez Carrero, was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. He graduated with distinction from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatoire of Music in lute and tres (a type of guitar common in Cuba and Puerto Rico).

In his third year at the conservatoire, after a tour in Norway, he was invited to be a professor of guitar at the Norwegian Academy of Music, but had to decline because of an upcoming tour. Even before graduating from the conservatoire he was invited to India to perform for the President of the country as a member of an orchestra.

After returning home he was a professor of tres at the Conservatoire of Amadeo Roldan for three years. At the same time he also played with Asi San and recorded three albums with them under the Egrem label. With the orchestra he has visited Spain, France and China.

After being invited by the Acontratiempo quartet he moved to Matansa to perform in music shows as a vocalist. After a while he got a position as a teacher of Cuban music history at the National School of Arts.

In 2018, at the invitation of the famous TV and radio presenter and actress Irina Chesnokova, he moved with the musicians to Moscow. So Dariel became the leader of the orchestra, which has now become known as the Hot Havana orchestra. The orchestra consists of tres, bass, Cuban percussion, trumpet, guiro and maraca.

The orchestra has participated in festivals such as Usadba Jazz, Ultra Jazz and also headlined the show Bar in the City. Its repertoire includes traditional Cuban music, Latin hits, ethno jazz, as well as English-language covers in its own interpretation. In 2020 they won the Grand Prix at the Talented Russia competition.
